  1. 擇日動工挖建墓穴。《儒林外史·第四回》：「其餘殯儀、桌席、執事、吹打以及雜用、飯食、破土、謝風水之類，須三百多銀子。」

  2. 俗亦指建築工程的開土。如：「破土典禮」。
